2 min brought Goyind Kao to see the preparations,
3 A light was burned night, and day in the house, and
4 the Brahmin began to read munters (prayers.)
5 Whop another year had passed. Debee, the goddess
6 with eight feet and eight hands, was present!
7 Then the Brahmin said, " I have now fulfilled my
8 engagement, and you must supply my place so long Govkd^c«
9 as Debee is here. Do not be alarmed or afraid at-place,
10 what you may see. ” Govind having armed nimself
11 took the Brahmin's place, and waited for the ap¬
12 pearance of Debee, He continued to read the
13 i munters and make vows. At length Debee ap-mgodd^

17 ; frightened, that he fainted, but soon recovering, ne
18 put himself in an attitude lor defence, though Ire
19 was unable to utter a word. Debee seized his
20 sword by the handle, and left her mark on it; after
21 this she disappeared. Govind at length recovered
22 his senses and came forth. He related what had
23 occurred to the Bramnin, and shew ed him the
24 mark; the latter said it was a good sign or token,
25 adding, " From this time forth both you and your
26 descendants will become conquerors with the
27 sword, and make many proselytes. You will be
28 governor of the country, and your puntb, or tribe,
29 will be celebrated among the Hindoos. Now, put
30 out your: fire and begin your preaching, for ypur
31 yow is complete.” Govind asked what doctrine lie
