7 agreed by the Sikhs that any infringement of them

9 Govind next bestowed on five of his followers
10 the name of Khalsa; and the names of these in¬
11 dividuals, as well, as their former occupations, have
12 beesx preserved. One was named Dhya Singh, a
13 Chutree and native of Lahore. The second was
14 called Sabit Singh, by trade a barber. The third,
15 Ilimnrat Singh, was of the Bearer caste, from Jug-
16 gernath. The fourth, Dhurrum Singh, was a, Jat,
17 nom Hustempoor ; and the fifth, Mokhum Singh,
18 was a cloth-dyer, and a native of the holy city of
19 Dwarakh, built, as the Hindoos believe, in the space
20 of a night for the reception of SrCe Keishen when
21 about to leave Muttra J
22 The other five Govind named Moogiitee: namely.
23 Bewail Singh, Ram Singh, Shah Singh, Tebui Singh,
24 and Futteh Singh.
25 Having thus selected and named his ten disciples;
26 Govind taught them the tenets of his reformed re¬
27 ligion, and thus addressed them, “As I gave the
28 pahooldee to you, so do you bestow it on all the
29 rest of my followers."

31 knot,* and taking the oath himself, changed his
32 name to Singh ; and he was ever afterwards called
