11 are different kinds of salt, indigenous und foreign, used in medi¬
12 ae--white and black. The white I used, was the common
13 culuuuy salt - large crystals, a product of one of the ranges of
14 mountains in the Punjab. Besides this, I used the salt common
15 in the jail at. Lahore, which had a bitterish taste, consisting of
16 lumps, easily to be crushed, in granular crystals. Salt is every¬
17 where used as a condiment in dishes ; and, as we are accustomed
18 to it, it has no medicinal effects, in large quantities and com¬
19 binations. (See Vol I. Introduction, p. viii.) A dozen years ago,
20 Brandy and Salt was a well-known remedy for various external
21 jnd internal complaints; haemorrhoids have been cured by it.
22 Muriatic acid has lately been recommended in Asiatic cholera,
23 chlorosis, dyspepsy, chronic affections of the liver and kidneys,
24 dropsy, rheumatism, etc. A continuous use of it has produced
25 salivation. Sjearsrdt is now said to care ague.
