5 known acrid narcotic* no? approached by any insect. It haw
6 been used* with benefit, in several obstinate diseases; as gout,
7 paraiysis, etc. Eastern doctors have n^t any knowledge of it.

9 llhdis toxicod. linotum (II.) Diarrhoea. Expectoration
10 or spitting of blood. Rheumatism. Scalding, rod
11 urine.
12 Kiuinus communis —vegetates at Lahore; its leaves, have
13 been recommended as emmenagoguu and galactagogue. C astor-oi!
14 is not so much employed by the natives as l>y the English ; it is
15 recommended as the best purgative in tender infancy; boiled in
16 nitric acid, it is converted into a sort of wax, which, however, is
17 said to he too easily melted to be used in making candle 1 -.
18 Ricini comm, folia (I.) Soreness of mouth and throat.
19 Ricini comm, radicis cortex (I.) Colic.
20 Rob antisyphiliticum (do Laftecteur)—has lately been
21 asserted to be a prophylactic in Cholera-morbus. Its constituent
22 parts are: Sarsaparilla, Lignum Guajaoi, Flores BqraginL,
23 Fiores Rosariirn, Folia Senna?, iVlel purum & Sreclmrum Cum
24 Aqua, The first three species I have not tried in cholera (pee
25 V ol. II. p. 45), hut they deserve a trial.
26 Rosa ckntifolia. Rom rubra, —is cultivated at Lahore.
27 Rose-water, rose-leaves, and the seeds are officinal. A great deal
28 of distilled rose-water i- yearly produced at Lahore.
29 * It os a o. a NiN<\. Rosa sylvestris in odorat a —vegetates abun¬
30 dantly on the summits of the Himalayas on the Piinjab-road to
31 Cashmere; but rio part is used. Its roots were formerly used in
32 .Europe against hydrophobia; the flowers against ophthalmia;
33 the seeds and pulp <>f its fruit in diarrhoea, dysentery, and
34 different discharges—also in dropsy, calculi, etc. *
35 Rosm arinus officinal is-r-is unknown to the Lahore doctors.
