15 PUTTEE, in the Punjab, a town in the doabd of Bari, and situate Burnes’ Bokh. 1.11.
16 about twelve miles from the right or western bank of the Beas, in
17 acountry formerly fertilized by canals, and so well peopled and
18 productive as to contain one thousand three hundred and sixty
19 villages, and yield a revenue equal to 90,000/. perannum. The soil
20 and climate are considered peculiarly favourable to the perfection
21 of the breed of horses, and, in consequence, there is a great and
22 well-selected stud belonging to the Sikh government. The
23 town, which was founded in the reign of Akbar, is well built of
24 bricks, and the streets are paved with the same material. Popu-

26 PUTTEHPOOR, in Sinde, a village on the route from E.1.C. Ms. Doe,
27 Sehwan to Larkhana, and thirty-two miles north of the former
28 town. It is situate two miles from the right bank of the Indus,
29 in an alluvial level country, much cut up by watercourses, which
