4 of those strick by the Indo-Scythian kings, Kadphises or
5 oe bag Kanerkes, who are thought to have reigned® about the latter

7 There are fifteen other topes in this neighbourhood. One of
8 these opened by Court, another officer in the service of Runjeet
9 ; bag eS Sing * was found to contain a coin of Julius Cesar,® one of
10 von Asien, v. 107, Mare Antony, the Triumvir, and none of a much later date. The
11 1 Moorer.fi.811, country around! bears traces of having been formerly very
12 populous, and the inhabitants assert that it was the site of an
13 a immense city. Burnes? and Wilson? consider it the site of
14 4 Arrian, v.cvii, the Taxila4 of the Greeks, the Taksha-sila of the Hindoos, the
15 greatest city between the Indus and the Hydaspes (the Jailum).
16 North-east of this place is a mausoleum surmounted by a
17 dome, the burial-place of the Ghikar chiefs, who formerly held
