The above statement contains data of manufacture and
sales for the past twenty-five years. Except in 1883-84 the
quantity of salt produced in the past year hagnever been exceed-
ed, and except in 1884-85 and 1890-91 to 1892-93, in all. of
which periods prices were lower than in 1894-95, the sales have
not been exceeded. The year that has just closed has been a
favourable one for manufacture, the result being that 70,35,016
maunds were brought to account. At the beginning of 1492-93
owing, on the one hand, to extraordinarily large sales (maunds
-51,09,601) at low prices (maunds 4,54,055 at two annas and
under, and maunds 46,55,546 af two and a-half annas and three
annas) in the preceding year, thereby greatly depleting stocks,
and, on the other hand, to a calamitous interruption of manufac-
ture caused by an excessive monsoon and continued wet
weather throughout the manufacturing months of the previous
year, only maunds 90,666 of salt being made in the whole year,
the balance of stock in hand amounted to only maunds 2,82,125. .
Favourable weather, and the exertions of the Assistant Com- ;
missioner of the Division and. his officers during 1893-94,
enabled maunds 44,51,154 to be added to stock, and after
deducting sales (maunds '27,95,141) the balance in hand at the
close of the year was maunds 18,66,903. During the year
