after enquiry is more by 13. The number sent up for trial is
fewer by 21. The acquittals by Magistrates number 39 against
34 in 1893-94, and the convictions 519 against 546. The per-
centage of convictions on committals is very satisfactory and is’
the same for both years, being 93°01 in both cases, affording
valuable evidence of the care shown by Assistant Commissioners
and their officers in this important matter,
In the Punjab Mines the arrests were again this year fewer
than before, the tigures being 357 in 1893-94 and 219 in 1894-95,
a decrease of 138 persons. Most of the cases.in the Divi-
Sion are petty ones, in which passengers are found possessing
small quantities, under a seer, of Kohat salt for personal use, and
continue to occur at the Kbusalgarh and Attock bridges on the
great thoroughfares leading from Peshawar and Kohat. At the
Dehli salt sources three seizures occurred in 1894-95; none
were made in 1893-94, At the Sambhar Lake the figures are
23 in 1893.94, and 18 in 1894-95, a decrease of 5 cases. No
