75. The next table contains an abstract of the whole-
sale prices of salt inthe months of March 1894 and 1895
in some of the largest markets of the British Provinces over
which the operations of the Northern India Salt Depart-
mentextend. The rates for the North-Western Provinces
and Oudh are for Sambhar salt, and are abstracted from the
departmental returns. Therates for Behar are for Calcutta,
salt and are also obtained from price lists supplied by Superin-
tendents of circles inthe Internal Branch. The rates for the
Punjab are for rock salt, and those for the Central Provinces
for Bombay salt and arein both instances those published in
the Gazette of India. Calcutta salt was on the whole somewhat
cheaper in Behar throughout the year than it was in 1893-94.
The reduction in the selling price once more reduced the rates
for Sambhar salt in the North-Western Provinces and Oudh.
In the Punjab and in the Central Provinces the prices of rock
salt and of Bombay salt remained practically stationary :—
