23 The items in the abstract are classified in the same manner
24 as in preceding years. Excise duty includes the realizations
25 from the duty on Kohat salt, and the sum due to the British
26 Government as its share of the duty realized by the sale of
27 Mandi salt. Sale price includes the price, apart from the
28 duty, charged for Punjab Mines rock salt, and for Sambhar,
29 Didwana, Pachbadra and Falodi salt, produced in Rajputina.
30 Fees, cesses and fines comprise (1) the license fees realized
31 in the Internal Branch of the Department, including the
32 Punjab, in connection with the manufacture of refined and
33 crude saltpetre, of khari (impure sulphate of soda) and of
34 rassi and sajji (forms of carbonate of soda) ; (2) the amount of
35 the Hakimi cess collected on salt sold at the Sultdnpur salt
36 sources in the Delhi Division of the Punjab; and (8) all mis-
37 cellaneous collections, including the charge made for filling,
38 loading and despatching through-traffic salt by Departmental
39 agency at Warthganj (Khewra), Sambhar.and Pachbadra.
40 The gross realizations amount to Rs. 1,86,12,965, being Figures reviewed.
41 Jess than in 1894-95 by Rs. 7,64,725, but more than in 1893-
42 94 by Rs. 7,21,581. The falling off in 1895-96 compared
43 with 1894-95 occurred in connection with the sale of salt at
44 the Rajputana salt sources. At the Punjab Mines, at the
45 Sultdnpur salt sources, and in Mandi and Kohat, as well as
46 in the case of saltpetre salt, produced in refineries, the sales
47 were larger than.in the previous year. The total charges,
48 excluding treaty payments, were Rs. 47,294 less than in
49 1894-95, being in 1895-96 Rs. 12,09,584, and in 1894-95
50 Rs. 12,56,878. For the entire Department the salaries and
51 allowances of the establishment were, in 1895-96, Rs. 6,26,855;
52 and, in 1894-95, Rs. 6,11,985, or more by Rs: 14,870 in the
