t
less than in 1894-95 by Rs. 47,890, owing mainly to there
being less salt required at Pachbadra than in'that year. Con-
tingent and miscellaneous expenditure fell from Rs, 2,683,026
to Rs. 2,48,752, or by Rs! 14,274. Tho net realizations oi
the year, again as before, excluding treaty payments from the
charges debited against the Department, amounted to
Rs. 1,74,03,381 against Rs. 1,81,20,812, or Rs, 7,17,431 less
than in 1894-95. Calculated in the same way, the percentage
of charges was 6°36 in 1893-94; 6°48 in 1894-95; and 6°49 in
1895-96 ; the smaller incidence in 1893-94 being due to the
partial failure of manufacture at the Sambhar Lake in that -
year necessitating a smaller outlay to contractors and
labourers.
2. The adjustment of the accounts of the Northern India

the Comptroller of India Treasuries, and as published in the
Finance and Revenue accounts of the Government of India.
for that year, was completed in March 1896. Excepting
the sum of Rs. 20-12 shown in the Departmental accounts for
1894-95, and in those of the Comptroller of India Treasuries
for 1895-96, there was no difference in the receipts. In charges
there was no difference at all. The accounts for 1895-96
are yet under adjustment, and will be reported upon in the
next annual report.
