* The gross receipts of the division are less than those for
1892-93 hy Rs. 87,757, of which amount the following are the
details:—There were sold in 1893-94 maunds 20,72,620 of
rock salt, or maunds 33,821 less than in 1892-93. Excise duty
was less by Rs. 84,552 ; sale price was less by Rs. 1,496, and
the miscellaneous receipts were less by Rs. 1,709.
The quantity of salt sold, though somewhat smaller (33,821
maunds or 1°6 per cent) than that sold in 1892-93, is consider-
ably larger than the sales of 1890-91 and 1891-92 to the extent,
that is, of maunds 1,32,339 and maunds 94,122 as compared
with these years respectively ; and in fact has never before been
exceeded, except in 1342-93, when mannds 21,06,441, and in 1889-
90, when maunds 21,40,981 were sold. The average sales of
the five years ending with 1892-93 are maunds 20,24,972, so
that the sales of the past year are better than this average,
although it includes such exceptionally good years as 1889-90
and 1892-93. This I consider to be satisfactory. The selling:
price at all the depdts in the division remained unaltered, and
continued to be 9 pies. per maund as in previous years, with the
