23 Both the opening and the closing balances were more satis-
24 factory than in either of the two preceding years. Opening
25 with a stock in hand of maunds 48,82,430, the year ended with
26 salt in hand to the amount of maunds 63,11,953. But it must
27 be noted, in connection with this latter figure, that whereas in
28 previous years, brine being available, salt was got from the lake
29 in April, May and June in considerable quantities and added
30 to stock, all manufacture ceased this year in March 1896, so
31 that new salt will not come on to stock in 1896-97 until October,
32 and possibly later, and until then the stock balance will therefore
33 be more rapidly lessened in the early months of 1896-97 than
34 it was in previous years.

47 booked total of maunds 4,41,945, resulting in a deficit of
48 286 per cent; 86 heaps cleared of 1894-95, with a booked
49 total of maunds 31,37,204, resulting in a surplus of 0:34 per cent.,
50 and 13 heaps cleared of 1895-96, with a booked total of maunds
51 5,183,668, showing a surplus of 7°99 per cent. the total result
52 being 107 heaps. cleared, booked to contain maunds 40,92,817,
53 and turning out maunds 41,32,070, yielding an excess of 0:96
