The Mohomedpur station is on the Bairagnia branch of the
Tirhut State Railway. The salt sent to it during 1895-96 was
evidently a trial consignment. The salt despatched to Moti-
hari and Segowli in the Champaran district was transported
into Nepal. It is said that this trade will now cease, as a dis-
pute between Bhutan and Nepal having been settled, salt for
consumption in Nepal will be imported from Bhutan in future.
There was an increase or maunds 7;500 inthe trade with
the Bengal-Nagpur Railway during the past year in comparison
with 1895-96. The traffic was with the stations of Sahdol,
Burhar, and Pendra road.

The salt sent into the Punjab during both years was con-
signed to Narnaul in the Patiala State. Of the quantity shown
as having been removed to Kajputdna during the past year,
maunds 2,985 represent the demand for local consumption in
the town of Sambhar and its neighbourhood; the balance
maunds 1,72,376 was removed by Banjara carriers, who: trans-
ported the greater part of it to the southward of the Lake for
consumption in parts of the country in Rajputana and Central
India far from railways. Of the total quantity, maunds
1.66,622 were buoked to the Bundi State; but a large proportion
of this salt was probably carried further to the southward into
Central India :—

monthly prices of Sambhar, Sultanpuri and Rock salts at Cawn-
pur, the principal salt mart of Upper India. These three des-
criptions of salt entirely occupied the market named, no other
varieties having gained a footing in it.
