Compared with 1898-99 there was a decrease during the
year in the quantities of salt sold and actually issued free of
duty to the Jodhpur State of 61,903 maunds and 46,272
maunds respectively. The falling off was due to the famine,
which has been very severe in the Jodhpur State. The Rampur
State purchased only 5,000 maunds of the quantity of 6,000
_ maunds to which it is entitled.
A case occurred during the year in which a quantity of 210
maunds 6 sérs of the salt supplied duty free to the Jodhpur
Darbar was exported to the Bikaner State by certain merchants
resident in Jodhpur territory. The import was detected by
the officials of the Bikaner State, and the salt was conveyed
back to Jodhpur territory. On the case being brought to its
notice, the Jodhpur Darbar confiscated the salt and fined the
persous concerned gn its export.
A running account is kept with the Darbdrs with regard
to salt to which they are entitled free of both price and duty.
A decrease of 3,650 maunds occurred during the year in the
issue of such salt as compared with 1898-99.

of the full duty on the salt consumed within the State up toa
maximum quantity of 20,000 maunds. A quantity of 15,776
maunds was booked for consumption in Bikaner territory dur-

189 8-99; maunds 11,976 from Didwdna and maunds 3,800
from Pachbadra. A refund of Rs. 19,720 became due to the
Darbar on account of half of the duty on the above 15,776
maunds. A payment of Rs, 9,757-8-0 was effected during the
