The ‘manufacturing conditions of the past year were un-
favourable. The quality of the salt was affected somewhat
by numerous dust-storms, and there was drought and scarcity
in the districts in which the works are situate. The quantity
of salt manufactured was larger by maunds 22,405 than in
1898-99; but considering, the indifferent quality of the salt
which was on sale at Sdmbhar, greater activity at the works
and a larger ‘outturn of salt might reasonably have been antici-
pated. The salt produced was disposed of at fairly remunera-
tive prices as will be seen from the following particulars :—

There was a large increase in local consumption, the greater
part of the salt shown opposite the Panjab for the past year
having been booked to the Rohtak district, in which some of
the works are situate. The three maunds of salt that went to
Hyderabad were indented for as a sample.
48. The statement below shows the quantities of salt
sold under the so-called through traffic system during the past
two years at the Khewra (Warthganj) Depét of the czs-Indus
Mines Division and at the SA4mbhar and Pachbadra sources in
Rajputéna, and the proportion borne by the through traffic
sales to the total volume of trade at these sources :—
