2 her husband, out of fear of the discovery: of
3 their plot, killed her on the spog by running
4 a knife through her belly, aid immediately
5 transported the corpse of the deceased to
6 Jammoo. One day they invited all the prin-
7 cipal individuals of Samba to an entertainment,
8 and with the usual treachery practised by their
9 forefathers, destroyed them all the same day
10 by means of poison, and took possession of
11 everything they. had. In the same manner
12 every one of the five brothers, by means of
13 gross intrigues, exterminated the chief persons
14 of their respective villages and possessed their
15 property. They continued to exercise similar
16 tricks for a long time, and generation after
17 generation, in order to raise their influence,
18 till at last Raja Hari Das was born in their
19 family. He was a very ambitious and enter-
20 prising individual. His first object was to ex-
21 tend the territory which he inherited from his
22 forefathers, and he executed his désign without
23 any apparent resistance. He occupied the
24 whole country belonging to his neighbours.
