2 Hakeem, after realizing one-half of the tributé
3 - settled on Ranjeet Deo, went to Lahore.
4 Soon after the release of Ranjeet Deo, Ahmed
5 Shah Durrani invaded India, when the former,
6 who had resisted the invader, fell into the
7 hands of the Afghans, and was again sent to
8 Lahore, and confined there. During his con-
9 finement, Ratan Deo, one of the Jammoo family,
10 who had gone for service to the Dekhan, having
11 given some offence to his employer, took flight,
12 and availed himself of the absence of Ranjeet
13 Deo to declare Ghana Deo, his ‘younger bro-
14 ther, the nominal ruler of Jammoo, on the con-
15 dition that he would not make use of his claim
16 to govern the country. Shahwali Khan, the
17 Prime Minister of Ahmed Shah, reported the
18 affair to His Majesty, and recommended that, as
19 the territory of Ranjeet Deo had been, usurped,
20 there was no use in keeping him any longer
21 confined’ The Shah ordered the prisoner not
22 only to be set at liberty, but to be honoured
23 with a Khilat, and to be restored to authority.
