2 money allowance, but to maintain their lands and suspend restrictive
3 measures.: It is, however, much to be feared, that until the Bozdar
4 country is invaded, and the tribe condignly punished, its members
5 will not learn to respect the lives and properties of the people of
6 the Plains, :
7 159. The Pindealee Momunds on the Peshawur valley, one of the
8 Misconduct of the Pin. large sections of the Hill tribe of this name, have
9 dealeo Momunde. likewise systematically plundered our border
10 villages for the last two years. Their aggressions were urged on
11 the attention of Sirdar Hyder Khan, when at Peshawur in March 1855.
12 He then promised that effectual measures should be adopted to bring
13 them to order. But the Pindealee men having continued their incur-
14 sions, with the sanction of Government Ameer Dost Mahomed Khan has
15 been addressed on the subject, with an intimation that, unless His
16 Highness can induce these marauders to respect British Territory,
17 Government must take the matter into its own hands, and organize an
18 expedition into the Pindealee valley. The Ameer has promised to restrain
19 them. There is ground to hope that the tribe will not be able to with-
20 stand the double pressure of the British Government.
21 160. At the close of 1855, the Syuds of Khagan, in Huzara, who had
22 Syne of Khagan. been expelled from their mountain fortresses in
23 1853, on account of their oppressive conduct, were
24 allowed to return.
25 161. During the negociations with Sirdar Hyder Khan in March
26 1855, a wish was expressed that theCabul Govern-
27 ment might be allowed to occupy the little valley
28 of Dour on the Western border of Bunnoo. Dour was formerly an inte-
29 gral portion of the Affghan Empire, but was ceded to the Sikhs in the
30 tripartite Treaty of 1838. In 1847, the people of the valley sent
31 a deputation, .asking Lieut-Colonel Edwardes to take them under our
32 protection. This was refused, and it has now been intimated to,
33 Ameer Dost Mahomed Khan that the British Government have no
34 claims on Dour. ,
