4 Colonel his troops, and particularly the new battalions he
5 was raising, and further took him over the fortifications
6 of Labor, and inspected with him some new works he
7 was constructing for their improvement, and to connect
8 the Juma Musjid with the palace. His prudent Dewan,
9 MoHKUM CnuND, and the Sirdar Gl'NDHa Singh, are
10 I reported to have remonstrated against the communication
11 of such knowledge, to a professional person of a nation,
12 that might have designs which would enable him to turn
13 it to account adversely. Runjeet, however, observed
14 with shrewdness, tbat if such were their sentiments,
15 they should have advised his withholding the invitation
16 altogether from the Colonel, for it was too late to begin
17 now to show distrust.
18 After the conclusion of these ceremonies and festivi-
19 ties, the armies of Labor resumed active operations.
20 KooNWUR Khuruk Singh was sent with a strong
21 force against Bhimbur and Rajaoree, where Sooltan
22 Khan, the Moosulman holder of the former territory,
23 proved a formidable enemy, having recently over-
24 powered and slain his relation Ismaeel Khan, who had
25 been left, as the result of previous operations, in the
26 possession and management of a large portion of the
27 territory. DuL Singh was at the same time sent with
28 another force to plunder and levy tribute from Muzuf-
29 FUR Khan at Mooltan; and a third under Desa Singh
30 ■was again detached to Kangra. Runjeet Singh in
31 person made a tour into the Jalundhur Dooab towards
32 the Turaee, whither he summoned various hill chiefs,
33 and made with them fresh arrangements attended with
