2 extreme northern frontier of the Sindhian territory. The
3 Labor Chief was however content with having thns felt
4 his way this season, and in December moved his army
5 homeward. At the close of the year Raja SUNSAR
6 Chund of Kangra died, and was succeeded by his
7 son Unrodh Chund. A Nazurana was demanded on
8 the succession ; and, upon the young Raja demurring to
9 the payment, RuNJEET Singh summoned him to attend
10 in person at his summer residence of Adeenanugur. He
11 was persuaded by the Fuqeer Uzeez-ood-deen to
12 obey the summons, and met the court at Juwala Mookhee.
13 On arrival, an exchange of turbands took place, and mutual
14 pledges were interchanged, between him and Khuruk
15 Singh on the part of the Durbar; and, after much
16 negociation, a lakh of rupees was at last settled, and paid,
17 as the Xuzurana of accession, by Unrodh Singh.
18 HuREE Singh Nulowa, who had been left with a
19 force to overawe the turbulent Moosulman population of
20 the mountains about Gundgurh and Durbund, contrived
21 by several harsh and vexatious proceedings, and particu-
22 larly by the seizure of a Seyud's daughter of beauty, and
23 credit in her tribe, to drive the whole into insurrection.
24 The insurgents collected in such force, as to compel
25 HuREE Singh to stockade himself, and remain on the
26 defensive, and he wrote to Runjeet Singh, represent-
27 ing the difficulties of his situation, and soliciting rein-
28 forcements. Runjeet ordered him to put on a bold
29 face, and maintain himself as he could, but sent no im-
30 mediate reinforcements, indeed the rains had set in, and
31 it was not easy to do so. Huree Singh in the mean
32 time being attacked, suffered a severe loss, and was com-
33 pelled to retire before the insurgents. The Sikh army
