2 assembled Chiefs at Ilydurabad, on the 20th April 1832,
3 corresponding with which, the following Engagement was
4 executed by the Governor General at Shimla on the 19lh
5 June following.
6 " A Treaty, consisting of seven Articles, having been
7 *' concluded on the 10th Zeehij 1247 A. H. corresponding
8 " with 20th April 1832, between The Honorable East
9 " India Company and His Highness Meer Moorad
10 " Ali Khan Talpoor Buhadoor, Ruler of Hydurabad
11 " in Sindh, through the Agency of Lieutenant-Colonel
12 " Henry Pottinger, Envoy on the part of the British
13 " Government, acting under the authority vested in him
14 " by the Right Honorable Lord William Cavendish
15 *' Bentinck, c. c. b, and o. c. h.. Governor General
16 ** of the British Possessions in India, this Engagement
17 *' has been given in writing at Shimla, this day, the 19ih
18 " June 1832, both in English and Persian, in token of
19 ** the perfect confirmation and acknowledgment of the
20 " obligations which it contains, in the manner following:
21 Article I. " That the friendship provided for in for-
22 ** mer Treaties, between the British Government and
23 " that of Sindh remain unimpaired and binding, and that
24 '* this stipulation has received additional efficacy through
25 " the medium of Lieutenant-Colonel Pottinger, Envoy,
26 ** &c. so that the firm connection and close alliance now
27 •' formed between the said States shall descend to the
28 " Children and Successors of the House of the above
29 •' named Meer Moorad Ali Khan, principal after
30 " principal, from generation to generation.
31 Article II. " That the two Contracting Powers bind
32 " themselves never to look with the eye of covetousness
33 " on the possessions of each other.
