PLANTATIONS.

I. Inthe Nagar Range-—The desired extension of the Lakkuvalli plantations
awaits the settlement of the question of the proposed establishment of a reservoir in
the neighbourhood by the Madras Irrigation Company. The impracticable character
of this scheme, and the very serious injury that itsadoption would inflict on the interests
of the Mysore State, have lately been brought to the notice of the Madras Govern-
ment ; and it is hoped that it will be finally abandoned at an carly date.
The Sakrebailu teak plantation is stated to have been so overgrown, that the num-
ber of.trees standing init could not be ascertained. As, however, fires were kept out from
it, it may be assumed that the number has not seriously diminished. ‘The Conservator
should have this plantation properly cleared of undergrowth, when the scason for such
work arrives.
