14 INTRODUCTORY.
15 1. The following is a list of the forest officers and the -divisions* they

17 Mr. C. H. James, Sub-Assistant Conservator of Forosts, Couch Behar division,
18 ,, Elton Forrest, Assistant Conservator of Forests, Assam division.
19 », A. P. Aylmer, Assistant Conservator of Forests, in charge of Kamroop
20 Forest Surveys, Assam (on special duty).
21 ,, W. Shakespear, Assistant Conservator of Forests, Dacca division.
22 ,, H. H. Davis, Assistant Conservator of Forests, Chittagong division.
23 Captain C. W. Losack, Officiating Deputy Conservator of Forests, Bhaugulpore

25 2. In October last a Deputy Conservator was gazetted to come to
26 Bengal, and it was proposed that he should take
27 charge of the two local divisions in Assam with an
28 assistant under him. As he was daily expected, the
29 opportunity of amalgamating the two offices of ‘the Upper and Lower Assam
30 divisions which presented itself on tho arrival of Mr. Forrest in June 1871, was
31 taken advantage of, there being no forest officer at the time in Assam owing to
32 Mr. Mann of the Upper division being away on sick leave, and the officer
33 formerly in charge of the Lowor division having been dismissed.

36 3. The two offices were accordingly amalgamated pending the arrival of

40 he was under immediate orders to join, he has not been heard of since.
