5 No. 14, dated the 28th November, 1889 —In exercise of the power conferred by section 528 of
6 the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1882, the Chief Commissioner is pleased to authorise the Superins X of 1882,
7 tendent of the Shan States exercising the powers of a Digtrict Magistrate, under Foreign Depart-
8 ment Notifications No. 1, dated the 4th March, 1889('), and No. 4, dated the 830th May, 1889(’), to
9 withdraw fiom Mayistrates subordinate to him such classes of cases as he thinks proper.

11 Notification investing the Ngwekunhmu of certain States in the Myelat with the powers of a
12 Magistrate of the 2nd class.
13 No. 15, dated the 28th November, 1889.—In exercise of the power conferred by section 12 of the
14 Code of Criminal Procedure, 1882, as modified by the Upper Burma Criminal Justice Regulation, x of 1989.
15 1886, and section 4, sub-section (Z), clause (a), of the Shan States Act, 1888, the Chief Commissioner XX of 1886,
16 is pleased to appoint the Ngwekunhmu for the time being of each of the undermentioned States in X of 1888.

28 No, 16, dated the 28th November, 1889.—With ieference to the provisions of section 407 of
29 the Code of Criminal Provedure, 1882, and to Foreign Department Notifications No. 1,(1) dated X of 1982,
30 the 4th March, 1889, and No. 28, dated the 28th November, 1889(*), the Chief Commissioner em-
31 powers the Assistant Superintendent of the Shan States for the time being to hear appeals from
32 Magistrates of the second class exercising powers as such in the Myelat.

36 tion 8, sub-section (1), of the Upper Burma Laws Act, 1886, the Chief Commissioner is pleased, XX of 1888.
37 with the previous sanction of the Governor General in Council, to extend the Upper Burma Forest
38 Regulation, 1890, to all the territories which may, from time to time, be declared by notification vi11 of 1890
39 under section 8, sub-section (3), of the said Upper Burma Laws Act, 1886, to constitute the Shan
40 States.

44 No, 267, dated the 5th November, 1890.—In exercise of the powers conferred by section 8,
45 subesection (2), of the Upper Burma Laws Act, 1886, and section 5 of the Shan States Act, 1888, the xx of 1884
46 Chief Commissioner of Burma, with the previous sanction of the Governor General in Council, is XV of 1888
47 pleased to extend to the whole of the territories declared by notification under rection 8, sub-section
48 (8), of the Upper Burma Laws Act, 1886, to constitute the Shan States, with the exception of the
49 State of Momeik and the States west of the Irrawaddy river, the Indian Christian Mairinge Act XV of 1872,
50 1872, except Part VI thereof (as amended by the Births, Deaths, and Matriages Registration Act, VI of 1896,
51 1886), subject to the following modifications -—
52 (1) In this Notification the expression “Northern Shan States” inciudes the States of No-th
53 and South Theiuni, Taungbaing, Thibaw, Mainglin, Maingtén, and Thénza, and the
54 expression “ Southern Shan States ” includes all other Shan States eust of the liawaddy
55 river, except the State of Momeik.
