5 The Byragee rejoined, “How should 1 know?”
6 Govind merely added, “ Think over this matter.”
7 Then Bunda enquired if he were GoorOo Govind
8 Singh. The latter responded, “Yes.” Bunda again
9 asked the purport of his visit; and Govind answered,
10 “To make you a convert.” Bunda immediately
11 consented, received the Pahooldee, and became a
12 Sikh. Govind Singh then took Bunda along with
13 him. Some days after this occurrence, Govind
14 sent for Bunda, and having seated him, delivered to m
15 j^^ s ^"Mm his dying words (wusseequt,) “ You are ap¬
16 pointed my successor,” exclaimed the Gooroo ;
17 “ You must be a. warrior, and avenge the blood of
18 my father arid grandfather, as well as that of my
19 sorts. Do not fear death.” Govind then took live
20 arrow's from his quiver, and delivering them to

22 injunctions to Bunda, added, “ Do not approach a woman , and
23 keep these five arrows: so long as you obey this
24 order, no misfortune will happen to you; if you
25 forget; my orders, or disobey them, then you shall
26 die.” Bunda received the arrows, and promised
27 to obey faithfully the injunctions of the Gooroo.
28 When Govind Singh died, and his followers were
29 left without a leader, they began to disperse them¬
30 selves. Many resuming their former occupation,
31 became cultivators of the earth, others learned
32 trades. #
