book and stoek shall be accessible at all times to the

or any officer deputed by him to inspect and examine
them.
No salt has yet been applied for by the Punjab Pottery
Works, Limited, under these rules, nor have applications been
received from any other company or person. It is understood
that Punjab Mines rock salt has been found not to be suit-
able for pottery and tile glazing, and that sea salt is the kind
that is required.
71. The following statement, which is inserted at the
request of- the Government of Bengal, shows the quantity
of salt taxed by the Northern India Salt Department which was
sent by railway into the Lower Provinces of Bengal during the
past three years. The increase as compared with 1892-93
amounts to maunds 20,133, and is caused nearly entirely by the
larger quantity of Punjab Mines salt which was sent to Patna
and Gya in the year under report :—

The fluctuation is not great, but no cause for it has been
ascertained :—
