3 73. The following statement shows the wholesale price PRICE OF SALT.
4 of salt in the months of March 1893 and 1894 in some of the prin- Prices of salt in the prin-
5 cipal markets of the British provinces to which the operations final markets of Upper
6 of the Northern India Salt Department extend. The rates for
7 the North-Western Provinces and Oudh are for Sambhar salt,
8 and are taken fromthe departmental returns. The rates for’
9 Behar are for Calcutta salt. Those for the Punjab are for
10 Punjab Mines rock salt, and those for the Central Pro-
11 vinces for Bombay salt. In the two latter cases they are
12 obtained from the fortnightly prices current published in the
13 Gazette of India. In Behar the variations are slight, except
14 at Patna, where the price seems to have increased by 24 annas
15 a maund. For the most part the price of Liverpool salt .in
16 bond at Calcutta and in the markets ruled a little higher than
17 in 1892-93. In the North-Western Provinces and Oudh the
18 increase is caused by the.increase in price at the Lake in
19 1893-94 as compared with 1892-93. Inthe Punjab nu change
20 worth noticing occurred in the market rates: —~
